    Joo Heon Shin, PhD

    Dr. Shin is Director of RNA Sequencing Core at the Lieber Institute for Brain Development (LIBD), an affiliate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research focuses on analyzing RNA-seq data of LIBD post-mortem human brain to make sense the meaning of the huge amount of data. In particular, he is interested in understanding how mini-exons contributes to the developmental stage and brain disorders such as schizophrenia, autism and bipolar.

    Dr. Shin received his MS and BS in Mathematics from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Korea. He received a MS in Computer Science from San Diego State University and his Ph.D in Computer Science from Virginia Commonwealth University. He was also involved as special volunteer in the Clinical Brain Disorders Branch of the Intramural Research Program of the National Institute of Mental Health under Dr. Daniel Weinberger in 2010-2011.
